Flat Tappet lifters are more complicated than they may appear. To start with they are NOT flat! The working end or “face” of the lifter is a convex radius, commonly called the Crown. On most lifters the radius is approximately 30–40-inchs. Lifters also MUST turn and spin in their bore as they move up and down.
